Did you know Tasmanian Senator Bob Brown is a wilderness photographer?
Bob's photography site is called Green Art and has held a photographic exhibition in Hobart.
Bob Brown is a life-long campaigner and the Leader of the Australian Greens.
Bob Brown was born in NSW in 1944. Bob is a twin and a medical doctor. Bob moved to Tasmania in 1972 to work as a GP in Launceston. He soon became involved in the state's environmentalist movement, in particular the campaign to save Lake Pedder, and was a member of the United Tasmania Group in 1972 (Australia's first "green" party).

Bob Brown was the first openly gay member of the Parliament of Australia. In a newspaper interview in 1972 Bob announced to the country that he was homosexual.
Since becoming a Senator in 1996 Bob Brown introduced bills on a range of humanitarian and environmental issues, such as banning mandatory sentencing of Aboriginal children, supporting death with dignity laws, calling for truth in food labeling, for forest protection, blocking radioactive waste dumping, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the use of solar energy in Australia.
Bob Brown successfully campaigned for a large increase in the protected wilderness areas. Bob Brown has led the Australian Greens during a period of growth from a party on the political fringe, to one which now polls at around 10% at state and federal level
Bob was the first official Leader of Tasmanian Greens after being their unofficial leader for years. Bob was Australian of the Year (1983), and houred with the UNEP Global 500 Award (1987), and the Goldman Environmental Award Prize (1990)
Bob now has a house on the Liffey River beneath snowy Drys Bluff in central Tasmania.
Bob's photography of the natural environment is nothing short of spectacular. Using some of Australia's most unique fauna and flora as subjects, Bob has captured the breath-taking unspoilt beauty of these rare pockets of the Tasmanian wild.

I was working in the casualty ward of St Mary Abbott’s Hospital in London, when an ambulance screamed to the door at 11.20am on September 18, 1970. I didn’t have the time to pay much attention – I was attending to a man who had been run over by a train - when I went over to see the new patient, it was legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

It's hard to imagine someone with a creative flair being linked to politics. I mean, c'mon pollies always come across so dry and uninspired.
I have to say though, I find the images above, though nicely shot just a little lacklustre for my tastes; but that is by no means a criticism of the work... They just don't move me.
Interesting post Morgan. Now when will we see your finished watercolour?

i thought they were technically quite good, some of them are probably more suited to a nature or science publication, but others are less about documenting and more about capturing the light
i think alexander downer was into musical theatre! haha
hi Louie
i was watching Bob giving a press club speech on ABC tv yesterday which i found quite inspiring . . . hes on my MySpace and i was checking the profile for a transcript of the program and noticed some information relating to his art . . . i was quite impressed myself so i just had to share!

hi Ruby,
oh i know, i thought that pic was just gorgeous, even how he has a cardi and tie on . . . i think it perfectly shows how harmless and peace-loving protesters are compared to the destruction of the environment

Speaking of politicians with creative gifts, my representative in Sydney is Peter Garrett, the former lead singer of Midnight Oil.

haha i will keep this one a secret from the fag hag society! shhhhhh
Bob Brown has been an outspoken fixture in Australian politics since before i was born, we studied him at highschool as the activist who was instumental in preventing the Franklin River from being dammed . . . he is the face of the Greens who are the only party who fully support gay marriage and the recognition of intersex as a gender . . . Bob is a champion of human rights, equality, diversity and environmentalism

He's been on my myspace friends ever since I wrote that scathing post on Peter Garrett and his Tassie backflip that would have been at home in the Cirque du Soliel.

i loved that article you wrote on Garrett, it was really informative and prompted me to research more about the issue myself . . . i think you should re-post it on orble or post the Myspace link over here so everyone can read it!
Bob expressed his disappointment in Garrett during the press club questions after his speech this week
i was going to chase up the transcript . . . i really should get onto it! haha
oh the "dried mud" photo is fantastic, if you look closely theres a tazzy devil footprint in the middle . . . he has captured the delicacy of the ecosystem perfectly!
