George Dunn

George Dunn is a graduate from the Kansas City Art Institute in Missouri earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Black & White Photography and Typography.
His career spans several decades gaining knowledge from a broad spectrum of experience in the diverse fields of presentation visuals and print design. While in college, George began developing his skills working part-time as a production artist for a local TV station. In 1974, George graduated and returned to New York where he continued his apprenticeship at a Manhattan based production firm as a storyboard and layout artist, a/v slide show designer and photographer. After a few years he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he joined an audio-visual production house and served as their chief layout artist, design coordinator and on-location photographer. Four years later, he relocated to Long Beach, Mississippi where, after freelancing for eight years providing graphics and photography services across a tri-state area, was hired by Mississippi Power as an internal graphics specialist and held that position for over seventeen years until he took an early-retirement in late 2005.
The thoughtful eye of this artist discerns every aspect of his subject who embodies the foundation for his work Inspired by the late nineteenth century landmark paintings of Alfons Mucha and Gustav Klimt, both of whom were key contributors to the nearly half century influence of the Art Nouveau era, George has adopted a similar discipline as the foundation for his subjects. Thus, stemming from his education, drive, experience, and influence by turn-of-the-century European painting, type, sculpture and poster design, George Dunn renders a blend of unique and ethereal romantic textures, styles and compositions through both conventional methods of photography, graphics and set design as well as utilizing current computer software technologies to achieve a variety of enhancements and effects.
His photographic illustrations evoke a sublime dream-state that is, in some instances, tempting and alluring, while in others he captures the admiration of a child's endearing charm and innocense. George has two children of his own and four grandchildren.
George Dunn was born on Long Island, New York, raised in northern New Jersey, and since 1980 has resided on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
