Proud Father
I'm one half of an experimental duo called Proud Father. We are based out New Orleans, one of us is a Visual Arts student and the studies Music Ed. We come from Jazz and Classical backgrounds but joined up due to our mutual love of the experimental and noisy. We design and build our own instruments, all electronic based so far, and perform on a variety of circuit bent and diy electronics and synthesizers. We perform fairly regularly and record just as often. We're comprised of Sebastian F. (me) and Lindsey D. We initially met during a music theory class in college in New Orleans, but didn't start the band until nearly two years later. Originally it was based on bedroom tape recordings I had made over the previous years, which we both expanded upon until we decided to turn the experiment into a live performance. We were really inspired by everything German bands from the 70s to Chicago industrial to modern Japanese noise, but we specifically wanted to do something that combined our love of electronics and diy stuff with our music without a direct emulation of any type of music. We also both come from arts backgrounds and try to incorporate as much of it as we can into our music, wether its design for albums or websites or the actual construction of the instruments we build. We try to stick to analogue electronics more than digital ones, as we find they are easier to de/construct and manipulate,(ala all of our samples are done from casette tapes, all of our music releases are on cassettes, analogue diy synthesizers, etc.) .We try and center our music on an artistic standpoint rather than a standard "rock format", although our music can come out decidedly anti-art (and anti-music). We also incorporate a lot of inspiration and motifs from film, classical music, philosophy, literature, politics, and feminism , and we actually both write for feminist blogs . The creation of textured sound is as important to us as melody and harmony is to others... we try to bury our melodies in as much distortion as possible. We really love being in new orleans because we have found some very cool kindred spirits, musicians and artists, both before and during our musical venture that have been very supportive and vocal.
