NEW Hedwig announced: Ezekiel Ox
August 5th 2008 15:27
EZEKIEL OX from Melbourne will be taking on the role of Hedwig in the new 2008 theatre production in Sydney.
Ox has been described as an energetic powerhouse, with his background being in rock bands and theatre. He is a charismatic 28 year old who has a stage presence with is hyperactive and maniacal.
Ox is best known for fronting the Melbourne band MAMMAL. Mammal rose from the ashes of FULL SCALE, Zeke's first band who were signed to Columbia Records in 2003 and toured the USA, releasing a critically acclaimed self titled record. Ox was with the band Full Scale for nine-and-a-half years where he gained a reputation for being an activist and and angry young man.
His rock band (since 2006) MAMMAL have toured Australia intensively, playing the Big Day Out, Homebake, Pyramid Rock Festival and supporting Cog, Sebastian Bach, Karnivool and rock icons KISS. Mammal's blistering debut album "The Majority" is released on 30/8/08.
No stranger to the stage Ox studied at WAAPA in music theatre, and shortly after toured the nation in “Mamma Mia”, before deciding to follow his music dreams. Recent stage work includes "Shane Warne: The Musical - Workshop" and “Tartuffe” at the Malthouse Theatre, as well as his one man show "RANT!"
As a special VIBE for Sydney and its affair with HEDWIG we have decided to give Sydney a special SNEAK PEAK of the NEW HEDWIG, this will be for three shows only at THE METRO THEATRE SYDNEY. Tickets will sell fast so we have opened bookings early with TICKETEK to ensure all the HEDWIG fans get in before they go on general sale with the venue next Tuesday. SNEAK PEAK dates are 16, 17, 18 September at 8pm.

Morgan, see... look what's happened we've flipped the vortex of doom around! Does Zeke mark iOTA's demise?
I don't know how I'm going to cope with an actual male playing this role lol

yep Cheryl used to be the door lady during the iOTA season . . . im not sure if shes going to reprise her role!
i will be very interested to see a new take on my beloved character Hedwig, i hope Ox brings something new and different to the role!
the Facebook group is: Really Long Link
(for anyone else that is interested)
hi alt_ed,
well some people said they would never be able to cast another suitable actor/singer for the role . . .
i was hoping they would cast someone more delicate and elegant (like John Cameron Mitchell) but it seems the producers have gone with another rocker . . . i wonder if Zeke will play himself (masculine) or play the character (feminine)?
"an actual male" HAHAhahaha
nasty!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if it's a new band or if they go with the original Australian cast band.
It would be interesting to see the difference with a new Hedwig. I've seen both previous Yitzaks but I don't think the new Yitzak has been announced yet.

hi Cheryl,
yeah i saw the two different Yitzaks aswell, both were fantastic but i personally preferred Saskia for energy and humour!
i didnt think there were any other musos in Sydney apart from Dave and Marty haha
im sure Tina will be doing a stellar job again!

Life As We Know It
Having seen Hedwig in 3 of its 4 venues, with both Yitzhaks (I'm with you Morgan, Saskia was the better Yitzhak, and what a sweet girl too) and on many more occasions than I really should admit to, I guess I could be considered a die hard fan. Mr Ox and co. will have a lot to live up to but I'm willing to give them a chance.

yeah he does have a cool rockstar name!
it must be a role that requires an eccentric name!
i would be interested to see any production really . . . even if Hedwig was played by Barry Crocker! haha
thanks for the comment!
