Painting the Blues: Kevin Callahan
September 19th 2010 14:30
From my "blues" series, I let the reflections in the store windows and the position of the man form a cryptic message.
Delta Deutschland Blues is from my Blues series honoring street musicians I find playing in cities around the world. This one is from berlin. The abstract background is from a watercolor I did in my sketchbook flying from Berlin to London. The delta references the birthplace of the Blues and the airline on which I was flying. In Berlin I was struck by the combination of East Germany and West Germany. The East still retains a Russian flavor.

I was reared on a small farm in Iowa and have been drawing & painting since I was 5.
My philosophy is simple: Composition,Story, Elegant Line.
If you find the elegant line, your work will be lyrical.
I produce works in acrylic, watercolor and digital photo format. I also conduct artist-in-residence programs for young people. I completed a Painting Intensive at the San Francisco Art Institute, studying with world renown Israeli artist Larry Abramson and at at the Ox-Bow School of the Art Institute Chicago under Phil Hanson and Michelle Grabner.
I earned my BFA from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. My studies included an emphasis in painting and printmaking. My work is hung in private collections throughout the United States and Europe. I have a continuing career as an award winning creative director. I am principal and owner of BSFG advertising.
I currently work and reside with my wife in Parkville, Mo and both of my sons are accomplished artists.
