Artist Statement: My hope is to create an image that allows the viewer to join me in the place that I am in when painting it. For me, painting is an escape from the busy world we live in. I want people to move close to my art and feel as if they have escaped their own reality. In examining the small details, I lose what is “real” and around me while reawakening what seems to be lost in many, the imagination. When creating my art I become like a child who plays and makes decisions without the worry of the world around me. Each mark or brushstroke immediately affects and changes the space I am crafting, which is a consequence we often lose sight of in our big world. My art is not so much focused on how it effects and relates to people, but rather how the “self” communicates with it. I try to portray different emotions and environments with different works that the viewer may or may not relate to. It is important for me that the viewer is able to break away from the tangible world around them, and enter into my world on their own, with whatever sensations they choose to bring with them.
