Artist Statement
The purpose of my art has been evolving over the years however the most important change has been since July 2004. My wife Brenda suffered a massive stroke on July 5, 2004, and life for my wife and I changed. Prior to this event I enjoyed photography but never really had a direction or purpose to it. Brenda’s stroke forced us to revaluate our lives and set new priorities. Since that time I have had a new awareness of the wonders of the world around us and I strive to capture that in my art. My wife has physical limitations from the stroke and can no longer hike to many of the locations that I shoot. She has told me how much she misses that experience. It is my desire to take the viewer of my photography to the location with me, I want them to feel as if they are there experiencing the wonders of the world. I consider it the greatest compliment when someone viewing my photography tells me that they feel they are right there whether it be on the mountain or in the heart of New York City. It is not my intent to make some great philosophical statement through my work but rather to just create a simple connection between the viewer and the image.
