you can always go . . . Gaytown

When you're alone
And life is making you lonely,
You can always go . . . GAYTOWN
Gaytown is a web-tv program which is produced by Sony and being broadcast via YouTube on CSpot. Comedian Owen Benjamin is the brains behind the project and the star and has spent the last 7 months creating this original concept series (see the first 6 episodes below)
Gaytown is the ultimate experience in walking a day in somebody elses shoes where the tables are turned and being heterosexual causes owen to be discriminated against, shunned, mocked, abused, theatened, and ultimate shoved in the closet to try and blend in.
Anyone who has become enchanted by the wonders of MySpace and wants a refreshing laugh should check out American comedian Owen Benjamin.
The 26yo half-jewish, pro-feminist, queer-friendly genius in taking MySpace by storm with his videos and hilarious blog posts on everything from Britney Spears vagina and slutty barbies to creepy santas and drunken airline pilots. He captivates with the reversed-gender-role tales of his manic-depressive, flamboyantly feminine, debatably gay, opera-singer father and his football watching, womens-studies, PhD mother and reflects on how he spent his non-traditional childhood and the jobs, gigs and life experiences that made him.
Benjamin is dry, witty, critical and open about sex, strippers, porn, women, celebrities, culture and society, especially the online society of MySpace and MSN. His humour is in the vein of Saturday Night Live stand-up comedians but with a youthfulness and internet setting that make him easy to relate to and incredibly enjoyable.
Here are a few funny quips from Owen Benjamin's MySpace blogs
1) About his upbringing:
"One time when I was 9, my neighbor shot me in the eye with his bee bee gun and I had to wear a patch over my eye. Coupled with the fact that my hippy mom used to make my clothes out of multi colored patchy velvet I looked like a little gay pirate."
2) A prediction for the future:
"The terrible disease AIDS will be renamed Kool-AIDS and it won't be seen as "quite as bad"."
3) Speculating about the history of MySpace
"Judas got so angry that he wasn't in JC's top 12 any more that Judas turned on Jesus. So he teamed up with Romans to try and get him. This is where myspace comes in. Jesus could have been saved if he just switched his profile to private, that way Judas and the Romans wouldn't have been able to get a hold of him. Judas would have kept trying to add him as a friend so he could peep his comments (and trick jesus with new default pictures) but Jesus was too smart for that and would continuously hit the deny button."
4) About Kevin Federline:
"Right now he's trying to keep the kids because together they represent 50% of his fan base. His other two fans are two male twins living in a shack in North Dakota. They only like him because they think he's vanilla ice."

Wednesdays: GAYTOWN - Owen Benjamin is a straight man living in an all Gaytown, a place where men wear fannypacks and adorn their yorkies with sweaters, and women drive trucks and pour concrete.
